Hi Y’all
My name is Vesper, I live
in Dubai, UAE and am a real foodie. My passion for cooking stems from early childhood watching my
grandmother and aunts preparing traditional home-cooked meals with simple and few
ingredients. My grandmother was a great cook. Whether it was having a few
guests over or a pre-wedding preparation, she would plan ahead and source the
freshest ingredients from the market. My mum came from a large family and
generally women would help out in the kitchen while singing their favorite
songs. Pork was a favorite meat for occasions and dishes like vindaloo,
sorpotel and roasts were a must on the menu. On weekends, I would often wake up
to wonderful aromas emanating from the kitchen and attempt to try some of my
mum’s recipes.
Cooking is not only my
passion but I also find it therapeutic. I came to Dubai almost 2 decades ago
and my passion for trying different cuisines has since grown. Dubai has a
multicultural environment and dishes from all over the world are available here.
As a working mother of two lovely daughters, I would often think of what I
would cook for dinner for my family, while driving on my way back home. On
weekends, my husband and I would plan the menu together and the whole family would
gather in the kitchen to prepare them (must admit it was a chaos at times!).
I am absolutely fascinated
by every aspect of cooking – sourcing ingredients, methods and cuisines and
also the challenges it entails. I have attempted to keep the recipes simple and
ingredients used are easily available. Some recipes are traditional, some recipes
have been handed down from relatives and friends, while some I invented myself.
Some are from various cookbooks with a little twist of my own. These are
recipes that intersect my everyday life. I hope you enjoy trying out my recipes
as much as I have enjoyed preparing them for my family.
Ciao
Vesper
